Office Space

When you're in a space that is organized and inspiring YOU will be organized and inspired. It's really as simple as that. But this can be tricky for the homesteader, sine you spend roughly 90% of your time in the same place. Life happens in and around your office, and life, as you know, is messy. Here are a few tips to stay on track:

* Have a system. A place for everything and everything in its place. Take the time to establish what you need and where it goes, the rest needs to leave your office (and maybe your house).

* Make it look good. This is the fun part! Reward your hard work with a trip to Target or the Container Store for some well designed organizational tools. Who says you can't take a 2 hour lunch for this? You work from home!

* Let there be light. Fluorescent light was designed by the Enemy to make you look jaundiced and give you headaches. Natural light is ideal, but a few nice lamps will also do the trick (especially if you're looking at your computer screen all day)

* Get visual. Creative inspiration needs to be out and about in your office. From pictures, to cards, to magazine clippings. Whatever gets you in the mood to hunker down and create! Even if your job isn't "creative", why not surround yourself with happy reminders of color and design?

Here is a glimpse into my home office. Still working on having a more purposeful inspiration board (of sorts), but I really love this space.

That's fantastic. I love it. How much do you charge to make home visits? =)

oh man. further proof that the office at my new job needs a serious makeover. i love organizational tools, but my bosses idea of organizational tools are cardboard boxes that the latest shipment of manilla envelopes came in and wal mart bags. no crisp linen boxes or sassy bright boxes here.

Tara, can you BYOB (bring your own bins)?! Also, did you notice that I have your photograph on my shelf? :)

Stan, in my dreams I get paid to organize and decorate for other people... hasn't happened yet ;)
